I have Flickr, Facebook, Youtube, and Ovi Share to host my videos and photos, but uploading to each one can be a hassle. Luckily, Shozu on my Nokia N95 8GB and other compatible Nokia devices has a feature that lets me send the photos to all the selected sites in one upload. I’ll show you how.

ShoZu
Use CC sites to upload to multiple places using Shozu.

Steps

  • Download and install Shozu on your phone.
  • Log in to Shozu on your computer.
  • Add sites.
  • Add CC sites.
  • Go to Shozu application on your phone then Options > Check for Updates.

Every time you upload to a site or email, ShoZu will automatically send a copy to all of your CC destinations. It’s that easy! I’ve set up Flickr and Youtube as sites on the Nokia N95 8GB, while using Facebook and Ovi as CC sites. Now, whenever I upload a photo to Flickr, it automatically gets uploaded to Facebook and Ovi too!

Additional Notes

Ovi Share is not currently listed by Shozu. You have to create an email location and enter the upload email address provided on your Ovi settings. You can do the same thing for Flickr video. Read Matthew Stevens’ directions on adding Flickr Video to Shozu as an additional guide.

And the TIPA goes to…

Black Nokia N82
The N82 has recently been awarded the Best Mobile Imaging Device for 2008 by the Technical Image Press Association (the largest photo and imaging press association in Europe).

I recall that the N95 was also given the same honour last year, and just found out that the N80 was in fact the winner of the same award in 2006!

A pretty neat and impressive hat-trick by Nokia and S60. Let’s look forward to bagging the next three, or perhaps a hat-trick of hat-tricks?

But more importantly than the awards is to discover and appreciate what our devices are capable of. For the past several months, I have been enjoying the spectacular winning entries from the Nokia Creative N95 Photo Awards at James Burland’s Nokia Creative Blog. I’m eagerly awaiting the results from the new series of Nokia N82 Photo Awards.

Congratulations to my co-author Kevin and the N82 product team! (Now, where can I get my hands on one of these fantastic imaging devices? ;))

Limits of beta culture
posted by: nitrio in Uncategorized on 04 29th, 2008 | | No Comments »

A journalist asked me today, “is all software going to be done in the beta culture way?”

I replied that no - there need to be limits. A line that you should not cross.

Coincidentally, Ivan Kuznetsov had written decisively against such movement yesterday:

Beta culture seems to be spreading from internet startups to bank systems (although in this case I would be more inclined to say that this was a huge screw up on Danske Bank IT department’s part). I’m not sure I like it. Gmail beta, Flickr beta, but Sampo Bank beta? It’s definitely fun to participate in debugging of the new web service, but not when it deals with your real money.

I totally agree.

I would say that “beta culture” is irresponsible and unacceptable whenever:

  1. You charge the users directly, or
  2. The downside risk is more significant than the expected benefit of running a beta, like:
    • Losing your money or something you have paid for (say, software for Mars rover spacecraft)
    • Losing your precious data (say, software that screws up your lifetime photo collection)
    • Losing your life / health (say, software for your pacemaker)
    • Causing collateral damage to others (say, software for a nuclear power plant)
    • Breaching ultra-sensitive private data

At least this is how I see it. What do you think yourself, what should be the limits of beta culture?

Royalty Loves Nokia

It never ceases to amaze me the type of people who use and love their Nseries devices. Well, while on my lunch break, I was able to snap two quick pics of a very important if not “royal” person proclaiming their loyalty to Nokia. Get Knighted after the jump.

King!

N70!

lol, looks like THE KING has his own favorite device… the Nokia N70!

The updated firmware version 20.0.016 for the Nokia N95 8GB (N95-2) came with built-in auto rotation. This is a video I made after the update. The option was not turned on by default, so you can see where to find it to turn it on. I think it’s great and wish the feature comes on the other variations of the Nokia N95.

Other Formats: High Resolution, Mobile, Share Ovi, Youtube

Compare vs. Nokia N82 Rotation

The Nokia N95 8GB rotates even on the main active display. The Nokia N82 does not rotate on the active display. I also noticed that the N95 8GB is more responsive. In my opinion, the screen rotation is much more useful on the Nokia N95 8GB because of the bigger screen.

This vlog was made possible by the Nokia N82. Make sure to check out the high resolution version of the video to see the full quality, 640×480 resolution at 30fps.

Guest blogger: Tatu T, the owner of Nokia Channels media service

channels_beta5.PNG

Dear Beta Enthusiasts,

We are now please to distribute the latest of the Channels service – namely the Beta5 – which incorporates some significant new features as well as a simplified user interface.

First of all, the experience takes you directly into the tab view where All headlines is the starting point. We have added for you the Editorial channel as default, but you may subscribe to more content by selecting Add content from the options menu or by navigating left to the My contents tab and clicking the Add content button.

Furthermore, we have added an intelligent mechanism that updates the subscribed contents automatically on the background. Without the Channels application running, installed WiFi Internet connections are tried first and when one is available and working full contents get updated. If WiFi is not available, only headline titles get updated using selected Internet connection. When Channels application is running selected Internet connection is always used for background updates. User may turn the background update off by selecting Options -> Settings -> Update content off.

channels_usage_stats.png
What comes to YOU, our dear users, we have been very pleased to see you coming from all over the world. For the past three “beta” months about half of you have come from Europe, but other parts of the world such as India (about 13%), South-East Asia Pacific (about 11%), North and Latin America (abt 12%) and Middle East Africa (about 8%) have also been well represented. The service has had about 3500 unique users monthly and page views reached over 30000 in March.

Looking forward to provide you more publications – we got a Comics channel coming – and yet a better experience!

Thanks for your support -)

Nokia PC Phone has been just updated to version 1.2.2204. This fourth public beta release contains loads of bug fixes and a couple of new features. Overall, the concept is getting more mature, and we decided to raise the technological maturity indicator to yellow = “some known issues”.

Nokia Podcasting Update
posted by: in Nokia Mobile Tech on 04 21st, 2008 | | No Comments »

Hello!

just wanted to repost the P.S. from the previous post to re-assure you that there is a real team behind this site and we are reading EVERY comment. The elves in Santa’s workshop are still hard at work for the next version of Nokia Podcasting to implement many of the great suggestions that mostly originated from your comments on this site.

We apologize for the lack of updates to this blog and will work hard to get something up at least monthly if not more often. We dont want to waste your time posting empty hype, but there are many creative and cool things our Nokia Podcasting users are doing with the app which are definately worth sharing.

We’ll update the site again this week with the SIS version of NOKIA PODCASTING which is now on the ROM software of N95 8GB, N81, N82 etc. There are some minor bug fixes and work done to improve the battery life, but the main value is that the text is now localized to the country languages. note that this is NOT a major updated, but is worth installing if you have only installed the previous 1.03 SIS. (No need to install if the app is in your SW or pre-installed)

Anyway, here is the repost from before:

I just got a comment asking if anyone is moderating this site. I get notified of every comment as its posted and often will send a personal email if there is a specific question. (as well as delete SPAM. You know who you are!) But since the scope of this blog isnt as a support site, there are some comments which are just forwarded to the development teams to evaluate the feedback for future development or bug fixes.

Just wanted to let you know that Big Brother is still watching, even if we dont always have something new to post.

I discovered while playing with the multimedia menu on the Nokia N95 8GB that it opens links as new tabs on the web browser. Combine that with the S60 Browser Shortcuts Key #5 to switch between the tabs very quickly, and now you have easy tabbed-browsing! This tip should also work with other Nseries phones featuring the new multimedia menu; the Nokia N81 and Nokia N82.

Intro

There is no documented button or option that lets us open new windows or tabs on the S60 browser. However, the internet tile of the multimedia menu lists your bookmarks and opens the link as a new tab instead of changing the main window.

Setup

Arrange the tiles on the multimedia menu so that the Internet tile is the first tile that shows up after pressing the button. This is not required, but it makes it a lot quicker.

That’s basically it. If you want to open a new tab, just press the multimedia button. As I mentioned in my S60 Browser Shortcut Key Guide, #5 lists all open windows. Just scroll left/right to switch between windows. The top of the page tells you how many windows are currently open.
